A regular member of the team, not on the photograph, was Neville Chamberlain.

This team was, arguably, the strongest Soccer XI ever, to represent S. G. S. At some time or other six of its
members were selected for the Lancashire Grammar Scool's XI and Dave Goodwin was later on Manchester
United's books, until an injury cut short his career.

Harry Sharrat, a member of staff, arranged for the team to play a match against the famous Bishop Auckland
amateur club who included on their team, Warren Bradley, later of Manchester United and England. On a
cold November afternoon, in front of a good crowd at Claremont, the School put up stout resistance and
although there was no score at half time, the visitors eventually ran out winners by 3 goals to nil, Warren
Bradley scoring a hat trick.
