Just to let everyone know that our President, Stephen Hindley, will be featured on the BBC next Tuesday morning.
The programme will also be repeated on BBC North West Tonight at 6.30pm for those of you who are not early risers.
Stephen has done an amazing amount of work to try to get some recognition for the hundreds of young women who were sent away to St Monica’s Maternity home in Kendal. In the 1960s, being an unmarried mother carried a real social stigma. Steve has campaigned long and hard in memory of his wife Judith who was sent there as a young girl, and whose own baby died just six weeks after she gave birth. Sadly Judith never recovered from the trauma and in 2006 took her own life.
It was after Steve told this story to guest speaker Roger Johnson at our 100th dinner that the BBC became involved. Thanks to Steve, and others who have campaigned long and hard, there is now a memorial to honour the women and the babies that lost their lives in the most tragic of circumstances.
Needless to say, this final programme in the series featuring our President should be well worth watching.
We hope as many of you as possible can tune in.
