THE TRAMP OF THE 22 MEN

There was a school of thought at Salford Grammar that opined there was more kudos in being on the school football team than being top of the class. You had to be a good player to be in the school team. Many of those chosen went on to represent the City when they stepped out to play for Salford Boys. One of the school’s best ever players, Michael Brennan, played for Manchester City and Rochdale before emigrating and having a successful football career in Australlia.

Salford Grammar teams competed against other Grammar schools in the north west travelling as far as Liverpool on a regular basis. English Master Steve Williamson took teams on tour up to Fraserborough in Scotland, which was a great experience for everyone.
